How To Measure Your Email Marketing Newsletter Success

Email marketing is a great tool to gain more popularity on your website’s blog by attracting new visitors and engaging existing customers or people following your business. After you build your blogger list, and it is time to send out your first newsletter, it is good to know what metrics to look for so you can see how well your newsletter did. From these metrics, you can also see what you can improve on in future newsletters. Segmenting your contact list based on past customers and potential leads allows you to make more specific newsletters for the audience and gives you a better chance at improving your metrics. Learn more about the three key performance indicators to improve your newsletter and overall email marketing success.

Open rate

After sending an email, it’s best to analyze the metrics a few days later. One of the first things to look for is how many subscribers actually opened your email, the open rate. Don’t expect a 90-100% open rate because this rarely happens. A good rate to expect for your first email would be anything above 15%. A good reference for future emails is to grow based on your first open rate. Whether that is starting at 15%, try to aim for 20% or 30% for your next few emails.

Click rate

Click rate refers to specific links you have in the newsletter that you want the reader to click on. Like linking to a full blog on your website, or a CTA button to a contact form. By checking the call rate, you can check if your call-to-action (CTA) was motivating enough. If your click rate is low, like around 5%, don’t stress, this is normal. This is something to work on in your email marketing and developing a plan to make your CTA engaging and intriguing to the reader to click on it.

Unsubscribes

This metric tells you if people liked your newsletter or thought it didn’t serve what they needed or were looking for. It is normal that people unsubscribe, but using this metric can help you decide if you want to change things about your newsletter and marketing strategy. If your number is higher than 1% every time you send a newsletter, then consider doing a deeper dive on what your target audience is looking for and how you can grab their attention and sell your products or services.
