What Information Should I Include On My Google Business Profile?

Business Category & Description

The first pieces of information you’ll need to add to your Google Business Profile, other than the name of your business, is the category of your business and a short description. For the business category, you’ll have the opportunity to choose a “Primary Category” and one or more “Additional Categories”. Simply start typing in the general category of your business (for example, “Accountant” or “Contractor”) in the appropriate field, and Google will give you a list of business categories to choose from. Once you’ve selected your primary business category, you can click “Add Another Category”, at which point you’ll be able to select any other business categories that apply to your business. Once your categories are all set, it will be time to add a short description of your business to your profile. For your business description, you can add up to 750 characters, allowing you to write a few sentences or a short paragraph that describes your business.

Phone Number & Website

Perhaps the two most important pieces of information to add to your Google Business Profile are your phone number and your website. Your phone number will allow people to call you directly from your Google Business Profile listing on search engine results pages and Google Maps, and linking to your website from your Google Business Profile will allow users to easily get to your website, where they can learn more about your business and contact you through a contact form or email address.

Social Media Profiles

Another great thing to add to your Google Business Profile is a link to your social media profiles. Google gives you the option to add a link to several different social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, Twitter (X), and YouTube. Simply copy and paste your profile’s URL into the appropriate field on your Google Business Profile!

Location & Service Area

In order for your business profile to show up on Google Maps, you’ll need to add your address to your Google Business Profile. Simply type in your business’s address, town/city, state, and zip code, then Google will automatically pin it on a map. If you need to adjust the pin at all, you can simply click the “Adjust” button on the map and drag it to the correct location. If you operate a service area-based business, you can also add a list of the towns and cities you serve to your Google Business Profile!

Business Hours

One more important piece of information to add to your Google Business Profile is your business hours. It’s as simple as can be to add your regular hours to your Google Business Profile: simply click into the hours field on the Google Business Profile editor, then add your business hours for the days of the week that you are open. If you’re closed on the weekend or on other specific days, simply check off the “Closed” box for that day. You can also add “Special Hours” to your Google Business Profile that will allow you to add different hours for specific days, like holidays.
