Pictures, video, and other media tools are great for my website, right? Well they can be, but sometimes their large files end up slowing down your website’s loading time, which, from a SEO perspective, could become detrimental.
Pictures and videos are great for making your website interactive, engaging, and to separate you from the plain-vanilla website of your competitor. But if you are not careful, and add too much, you could end up ‘shooting yourself in the foot,’ so to speak, and rank worse in the eyes of search engines. Google, Bing, and other search engines like to see websites with quick loading times, and there are certain ways to optimize your website’s page performance.
One of the most effective ways to speed up your website is a caching system. If you are using resources like CSS files, image files, Javascript files, and much more, a caching system would eliminate the process of downloading these resources over a network. Instead of constantly re-downloading, a caching system would have these saved (cached) through a browser. Once a file is cached, a browser can use the local file every time the page is visited. If you’re using a WordPress site, you should seriously consider implementing the WP Super Cache plugin. If you aren’t using WordPress, there are plenty of other Cache programs that you can use around the internet; you just have to find the right one for you.
