Reasons Your Google Business Profile May Get Suspended

Many unwritten rules can cause your Google Business profile to be suspended or flagged, some of which are unavoidable, but we’ve gone over some steps you can take and the reasons why your account might be flagged or suspended below.

Your business name is filled with keywords.

Keywords are an extremely useful SEO tactic when it comes to trying to rank your business higher, but they can also come at a cost if you do it the wrong way. Trying to cram keywords into your business name is a surefire way to get your account suspended. An example of this could be a lawn care company that puts keywords other than the business name, including the services they provide, into their business profile name. Google specifically wants the name of your business as it is listed and as you go by on your Google profile, instead of your business filled with other keywords trying to get your page to rank. There may be some short-term gains from doing something like this, but in the long run, your account will most likely get suspended or flagged.

Incorrect Address

Google has vigorous rules when it comes to connecting an address to a physical Google Business profile. You are not allowed to link your Google Business profile to a PO box or any address that is not physical, including if you are working at a coworking space (like WeWork). Another no-no would be if you are displaying your residential address on your Google Business profile but do not use that location as an office or staging location for said business. You may be running the business side of your operation from your home office, but unless you are seeing customers there or are displaying visible signage on the outside of that location advertising your business, that is not allowed. Similar to filling keywords into your business name, there may be short-term gains from this tactic, but in the long run, you will be caught and your account suspended.

Making key changes to your Google Business Profile

This is one of the unavoidable things that can happen, unfortunately, and may lead to a suspension. When you edit core information in your business profile, including your business name, phone number, business address, or what your business is categorized under, this may trigger a suspension as Google may find it suspicious. Unfortunately, you may inadvertently trigger a suspension if you change these key elements to your account, which really shouldn’t be changed that often anyway. So to be safe, keep them the same if you can.
