Page titles are an essential factor for on-page search engine rankings, but all too often, website owners neglect this major piece of the SEO puzzle. Business owners want their companies to be found online, and improving online visibility can often begin with the title of a website’s page. You do not want to just throw any combination of words up and call it a title, however. Like all aspects of SEO, page titles must be carefully considered and relevant to both the content on the page itself and what users are looking for in search engines.

Making the Titles Too Long or Too Short

Google displays up to 60 characters in its search engine results page, so all titles should fall somewhere in this range. Short titles will limit the potential of a page to rank for keywords or locations. Utilize all 60 characters to incorporate important keywords that you would like your website to be found for. However, if the title is too long and exceeds 60 characters, it will end up being cut off in the search engine results. Also, having too many keywords within your page title could result in keyword cannibalism. It is best to stay within Google’s limits.

Not Optimizing the Titles with Appropriate Keywords

Keyword stuffing is something to be avoided, so multiple keywords or service areas should not be included in the same title. Because each web page contains unique content, the keywords and locations in the title should reflect what is on the page it is describing. It is also important to know that the keywords that appear at the beginning of the title are looked at as most important by Google. So if you’re really trying to optimize for a specific keyword, make sure that keyword is at the beginning of your page title.

Having Duplicate Page Titles

Duplicate page titles are an extremely common SEO mistake across the board. This makes it difficult for users to determine which page is which when they are all displayed together in the search engine results page. The title should be distinctive from all others on the same website.

Not Having a Title on a Page

Of course, every page on a website should have a title, but this is not always the case. Search engines use the title tag to display in their search results, so a page that lacks a title is difficult to find and index. Titles give each page some context so both the search engine and users know what the page is about.

While it might seem cumbersome to come up with titles for each page of a website, this is an important part of SEO. Without well-optimized and relevant page titles, a website’s ranking will suffer, potentially costing a business money in the long run. It is better to put in the effort now and reap the benefits of an effective page title later. When optimizing content for SEO, users may look to using a “content score checker”, which grades content based on its readability for search engines. While these checkers can significantly improve content, from structure to conciseness, can their “high scores” also lead to higher website rankings? According to findings from a recent Ahrefs blog, probably not. After surveying 20 keywords, the company found that there were “weak correlations” between high ranking websites and high “content scores.”

Here’s How You Can Use Content Score Checkers to Your Advantage:

 • They can help you determine “holes” in topic coverage. If you’re receiving a low “content score,” this could be because the subject you’re writing about has already been extensively covered. With the checker, you can look for new angles to cover the subject.
 • They can tell you if your content is SEO-friendly.

What Content Score Checkers Can’t Tell You:

 • If the topic you’re writing about is going to help you rank, or if its searches are already too dense.
 • If your content is AI-generated, which Google penalizes if the content is “low quality”.

How You Can Get Your Content to Rank Better:

 • Do your own research. What separates your content from other high-ranking websites?
 • Pick topics that are important to readers. You can create high-quality, SEO-friendly content, but what does it matter if nobody is searching for the topic you covered?
 • For more guidance on how to get your website’s content to rank better, read one of our previous blogs here.

Bottom line: you should definitely look to “content score checkers” for optimizing your content, but you shouldn’t rely on it, as it has its limitations.

Many businesses are ignoring TikTok, believing it is solely comprised of dancing teenagers. However, nearly 40% of young adults check either TikTok or Instagram before checking Google for local services. Thus, if your business does not appear on TikTok as well as Google, then you are essentially invisible to some of those with the purchasing power.

Since 2009, Boston Web Marketing has been helping businesses build their online visibility. TikTok presents a new territory for local companies. Below is our plan for creating success with TikTok in four weeks!

Week 1: Set-up & Strategy

Find a person within your company to manage the TikTok channel. Ideally, the person should be able to create their own videos, edit them, be on-camera, and post every day. Young employees typically succeed here, as they are familiar with the platform.

Next, find a few relevant searches to begin educating TikTok’s algorithm about your account. For example, find popular content within your industry and simply “like” it. Leave comments on some of these posts as well. When you like and comment on posts that fit your account’s theme, it tells TikTok’s algorithm exactly what you want your account to focus on.

For example, instead of trying to rank for “Boston Restaurant”, try to rank for “Best Restaurants in North End for First Dates” or “How to Fix Frozen Pipes in Winter”. These types of searches are much less competitive.

Your content split should be 80/20; 80% of your content should be focused on creating a “For You Page” type of content for users discovering new things, and 20% of your content should be focused on creating content targeted towards a specific search term. As a new account, you have limited authority; therefore, you should focus on building an audience first with engaging content that captures a viewer in the first three seconds.

Create a batch of videos and spend significant time developing both the filming and editing process. Every single video should have a compelling hook that grabs the viewer’s attention within the first three seconds. Utilize fast cuts, eliminate pauses, utilize text overlays, and caption your videos, since many viewers will consume your content without audio.

Week 2: Launch and Optimization

Begin posting daily. Make sure to optimize each video you post with an accurate and keyword-rich description (no longer than 500 characters), and three to seven relevant hashtags.

When you receive comments from viewers, use your target keywords in response. This reinforces your content focus to TikTok’s algorithm.

Monitor your retention rates closely. What causes viewers to leave? Most viewers drop off at the 5-second mark; therefore, your hook is extremely important. Test videos with different hooks to determine what best captures the user’s attention.

We follow a similar methodology to the one outlined above. Data drives strategy.

Weeks 3-4: Analysis and Adjustment

Continue posting while analyzing performance. Check your Creator Search Insights to see which videos are attracting search traffic and what terms were used to locate the content.

In addition to continuing to create content, continue to engage with other content creators within your niche. Success is a combination of participating in your niche and broadcasting your content.

If search videos are not ranking, adjust your caption and/or hashtags. Even minor adjustments to your content can result in increased visibility.

Why Businesses Must Claim Space On TikTok

The majority of businesses have not established themselves on TikTok. Those who move early will establish themselves with younger generations, which will be the driving force behind future business growth.

A complete strategy includes utilizing TikTok with paid advertising and a solid social presence. Each channel targets different demographics.

Restaurants may be able to create videos showcasing the preparation of their food. Contractors may be able to showcase problem-solving techniques for the most common issues. Retailers may be able to showcase their unique products. Professional services may be able to break down complex topics.

Utilizing local references in your content will help you develop a connection with local audiences. References to specific neighborhoods, landmarks, and weather conditions will allow you to connect with local audiences.

While four weeks provides a foundation for growth, sustainable growth takes months. TikTok rewards consistent posting and authentic interaction with its users. The algorithm prefers fresh content; thus, consistency beats perfection.

Don’t overthink it, start small. Create your account. Post one video. Monitor your results. Continuously improve.

If your business has a physical address that you’re trying to increase foot traffic to, advertising on mapping programs is non-negotiable. The most commonly used mapping program is Google Maps. However, Apple Maps cannot be overlooked because it is used by many iPhone users. Properly advertising your business on mapping programs such as Google and Apple maps will allow local customers to find your business more easily, without having to rank #1 on search engines.

Keep reading to learn more about the differences between Apple and Google Maps, and how to set up accounts for both. If you’re in need of professional marketing services, contact Boston Web Marketing. Our team of marketing experts can help your business grow its online presence. Visit our website for a free SEO audit today.

What Differentiates Apple Maps from Google Maps?

When it comes to mapping platforms, many function similarly. This includes Google Maps and Apple Maps. Although they function similarly, Apple Maps prioritizes engagement when showing listings, while Google Maps utilizes broader SEO focused ranking tactics.

Overall, both Apple Maps and Google Maps provide similar experiences from the user standpoint, as well as an advertising standpoint. However, it is important to consider that Apple Maps is only available to IPhone and Apple products, while Google Maps is available more broadly across more devices.

Should You Advertise on Google Maps and Apple Maps?

It is important to advertise on Google for your business. Having a Google Business Profile will increase your website’s visibility and web authority, which will help it rank better in search results on Google. Google is the #1 search engine, so advertising any way possible on Google is always a good idea.

However, you should not overlook the importance of Apple Maps. Apple Maps comes standard on every IPhone, and allows you to reach Apple users more effectively. There is no hard to advertising on both platforms, although certain businesses may see more value in Apple Maps than others.

Tips for Optimizing Your Maps Listings on Google Maps and Apple Maps

Your Google Maps listing is automatically integrated with your Google Business listing, making it seamless to get listed and track your KPIs both on Google Business directly as well as other Google platforms like GA4. Google Maps relies more heavily on SEO than Apple Map listings when it comes to ranking locations, so optimizing your Google Business Profile to include as much detail regarding the services you provide, hours of operation, booking links, and contact information is critical.

For Apple Maps listings, your listing can be pulled from a Yelp account, or by creating an Apple Business Connect account. You can optimize your profile by adding NAP data, photos of your business, booking links and contact information. We always recommend advertising across both Google Maps and Apple Maps for brand authority and NAP consistency.

Contact Boston Web Marketing for Professional Marketing Services Today

Advertising in the right places is half the battle of getting your business found online. Maps platforms are essential to driving foot traffic into your location. However, advertising on mapping platforms is just the tip of the marketing iceberg. For the best business visibility, you should create both a Google Maps and Apple Maps listing for your business. For additional marketing services, contact Boston Web Marketing directly by calling 857.349.5062.

If you find yourself at a crossroads about whether to update your content or create new pages, consider how each option will better serve your audience and your SEO strategy. Both options are great ways to accomplish your goals, but it depends entirely on the goals and preferences you want to achieve. We will go over updating content, creating new pages, and their effectiveness for businesses and brands throughout this article. Keep reading below to gain further insight into these topics.

Reasons to Update Your Content

Updating your content is a very effective strategy and tactic that most businesses and brands should stay aware of. Of course, this entirely depends on the type of page you are updating. For instance, if you have a product page, updating content is key when adding similar product information about new sizes, colors, models, etc. Other reasons to update content include updating the data listed, adding new FAQs about the page’s content, adding new bullet points, updating images, and adding new videos related to the content already provided.

Keep in mind that not every page needs to be updated. If there are new topics you want your audience to learn more about, make sure they are related to the content and topics already mentioned or highlighted on the page. The last thing you want is to confuse your audience by placing irrelevant content in the wrong areas, which could also derail your SEO strategy.

Reasons to Create New Pages

Creating new pages entails bringing new ideas and products to the table. New pages can also be similar to existing pages, but each should create a different motive and desire. Once a new page is created, begin searching for ways to tie it to and direct it to the page you initially wanted to update. New pages allow your audience to learn more and find alternative solutions, and they help search engines and crawlers discover new content! Additionally, new pages are great for articles & blogs, ecommerce experiences, and lead generation pages.

Which Option is More Effective?

When deciding which option is right for you and your business or brand, it may be a good idea to run a test! The best way to determine whether to update a page or create a new one is to track performance. Keep a close eye on metrics and KPIs, such as conversions, clicks, and overall sessions, in the first few months after the update and after the new page is published. Once the first few months have passed, use your best judgment based on the data you have gathered.

Google Tag Manager is an essential tool for understanding your website’s performance by tracking specific user actions, commonly referred to as conversions. Accurately tracking these conversions provides invaluable insights into what drives your business growth, helping you optimize your strategies effectively. Understanding these digital interactions is key to success! In this article, we will discuss crucial conversions to track, including call tracking, email tracking, and contact form submissions, and how Boston Web Marketing can help with our expert conversion tracking and Google Analytics services!

What is Conversion Tracking and Why is it Important for My Business?

Conversion tracking helps you understand how users interact with your website and what actions they take that are valuable to your business. By setting up tracking for key events like phone number clicks, email clicks, and form submissions, you gain clear data on what marketing efforts are producing results. This allows you to make informed decisions, ensuring your advertising budget and content strategies are directed towards what truly works for your audience.

Click-to-Call Tracking

Tracking phone calls as conversions is vital, especially for local businesses that rely on direct customer communication. You can implement call tracking through Google Tag Manager by setting up a “tag” that tracks whenever someone clicks and calls the phone number listed on your website. This setup allows you to see which pages or website content are most effective in driving phone inquiries.

Click-to-Email Tracking

Tracking email clicks helps you understand user engagement with the email addresses displayed on your website. This conversion tracking method, easily configured in Google Tag Manager, fires a tag whenever a user clicks an email link. It’s particularly useful for service-based businesses, showing direct interest from potential clients who prefer email communication.

Contact Form Submissions

Contact form submissions are often one of the most important conversions to track, as they indicate a direct intent to engage with your business. Setting up Google Tag Manager to track these submissions typically involves firing a tag when a user successfully completes and submits a form. This conversion can also be set up through Google Analytics directly. This conversion gives you concrete data on how many potential customers are reaching out through your website, a crucial metric for any business looking to grow its online presence.

More and more people are starting to use Perplexity AI as a search engine. AI searches don’t just give you ten blue links – they actually read through sources and build you a custom answer with citations right there on the page.

Pretty cool, right? But it also means the old playbook doesn’t work the same way. We’ve spent months testing what actually gets our clients’ content featured in these AI responses. Turns out, there’s a pattern to how Perplexity picks its sources.

Newer Stuff Wins Almost Every Time

You know how Google cares about age and authority? Perplexity thinks differently. We’re watching brand-new articles beat established ones that have been around for years. The system heavily favors content that’s either freshly published or recently updated.

What does this mean for you? Stop treating your website like a library. Those blog posts from 2022 need attention. Go back and add new data points. Update your examples. Throw in some current statistics. Even small changes tell Perplexity your information is still relevant and worth citing. Regular blog updates matter more than ever in this AI-driven search environment.

Clicks Matter More Than You’d Think

Here’s where it gets interesting. When someone sees your site cited in a Perplexity answer and actually clicks through, that signals quality. Those early interactions really influence whether you’ll show up in future searches on similar topics.

That’s why we obsess over title tags and descriptions with our clients. You’ve got maybe two seconds to convince someone your link is worth the click. Vague titles like “Marketing Tips” don’t cut it. Try “5 Email Tactics That Doubled Our Open Rates” instead. Give people a reason to choose your citation over the others. Proper SEO elements become even more critical when competing for AI visibility.

Cover Your Topic From Every Angle

Perplexity doesn’t just look at one article in isolation. It’s a check to see whether your whole site demonstrates real expertise. Are you writing about different aspects of your subject? Do your articles connect in logical ways?

We help businesses map this out through strategic content planning. Say you run a landscaping company. You’d want pieces on lawn care basics, seasonal maintenance schedules, native plant selection, irrigation systems, and pest management. Link them together naturally. Show that you understand the whole picture, not just a single slice. This approach to building topical authority helps both traditional search engines and AI platforms recognize your expertise.

Strategic Linking Actually Works

Perplexity trusts certain domains more than others in each industry. When you reference these authoritative sources in your content, or better yet, when they mention you, your chances of getting cited jump significantly. We’ve watched this happen with client sites.

For local businesses, your Google Business Profile and review platforms become super important. Keep those updated. Ask happy customers to leave reviews. These signals feed directly into how Perplexity evaluates your credibility. The platforms prioritize content from domains it deems trustworthy within specific industries.

Write Like You Actually Know Your Stuff

Including related terms throughout your content helps Perplexity understand what you’re really talking about. But here’s the thing. You can’t just stuff keywords in there awkwardly. Write like an expert who naturally uses industry language.

Our writers focus on sounding authentic first. If you’re explaining social media strategy, terms like “engagement metrics,” “algorithm preferences,” “content scheduling,” and “audience targeting” should flow naturally in context. Creating high-quality content that demonstrates genuine expertise increases your chances of being cited by AI search platforms.

Let’s Talk About Your Website!

We’re tracking these AI search changes closely at Boston Web Marketing. Our team can review your current content and identify precisely where you’re missing opportunities with platforms like Perplexity.

Want to see how your site measures up? Get a free audit from us. We’ll walk you through what’s working and what needs adjustment.

As you plan your marketing campaign for the upcoming holidays, it’s crucial to start now. With the holiday season on the horizon, it’s time to strategize how to set your business apart. Holiday Marketing Strategy For 2025

Create An Email Marketing Strategy

When creating your holiday marketing strategy, thinking outside the box of your usual marketing strategy is essential to reach all existing and potential customers. A great way to do so is to create and share an email or text message campaign. Sharing an email campaign that highlights your business, is holiday-themed, and includes a promotion or deal is a great way to reach customers quickly, effectively, and efficiently. Be sure to keep your imaging professional and holiday-themed without sacrificing clarity or professionalism.

Lean Into User-Generated Influencer Content

Collaborating with influencers and other customers who post about your business is a great way to sell, especially during the busy holiday season. Whether it is on Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, or another social media platform, capitalizing on this form of content is a great way to introduce your brand and business to those who may not have come into contact with your business before. In addition, it can build trustworthiness and encourage visitors to your business during this time period and long after.

Start Your Marketing Earlier Than You Think

Holiday shopping starts early, and being the first business to stand out early in the rush of shopping season can give you a significant advantage. Starting your holiday marketing planning early allows you to understand what works and what doesn’t, and gives you time to adapt, change, and implement the strategy that’s right for you. This early marketing start provides you with ample flexibility to capitalize on this time period and achieve all of your marketing and business objectives.

]]>
In a new study from EBU, the company found that “AI Assistants “routinely misrepresents news content, no matter which language, territory, or AI platform is tested.” After evaluating over 3,000 AI responses, discoveries included outdated or incorrect information, sourcing issues, and hallucinated answers.

What Else The EBU Study Revealed:

 • The number of responses with significant issues of any type decreased from 51% to 37%.
 • CoPilot, ChatGPT, and Perplexity had 1/3 of these issues, while Google’s Gemini had around 1/2.
 • Gemini had the largest sourcing issue, with over 72% of responses incorrectly attributed.

What Does This Mean for Your Website?

If AI-Powered Search Engines continue to rely on outdated/ incorrect information, this could significantly hurt your business. For example, suppose someone searches on Google for “hamburgers near me.” Google’s AI-Assistant leads them to your website, which sold burgers at one point, but has since removed the dish from the menu. Had the customer gone to your restaurant, not only will they see your business as “untrustworthy,” but they’ll probably not want to patronize there, either.

Why Do AI-Powered Search Engines Source Incorrect Information?

As the Columbia Journalism Review reported earlier this year, “ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Perplexity Pro exhibited unexpected behaviors given what we know about which publishers allow them crawler access. On some occasions, the chatbots either incorrectly answered or declined to answer queries from publishers that permitted them to access their content. On the other hand, they sometimes correctly answered queries about publishers whose content they shouldn’t have had access to.” Whether these issues will be ironed out over time is still up for debate.

How You Can Get AI-Powered Search Engines to Accurately Represent Your Website:

 • Monitor your rankings in AI-Powered Search Engines. If your website is ranking in any of the “Overviews” sections, pay attention to how the AI has used your website as a source for a particular search query.
 • Try to answer specific questions as clear as possible.

How to Build Local SEO

Local SEO is crucial to ensure that your local customers can easily find and purchase your services. Additionally, good localized SEO allows you to capture markets that are closer to you and further away from your competitors.
However, it takes time and effort to build a good local SEO campaign. Creating content, promoting messaging on social media, and optimizing web pages are always helpful in local SEO. But there are other tools and techniques that allow digital marketing professionals to more rapidly build out their local SEO and improve local organic searches.

Create and Optimize a Google My Business Account

Google My Business can be a key driver for your local SEO efforts and help improve online conversions significantly. Make sure you are creating a GMB page with accurate NAP information, service areas, and other business details. In addition, also provide content on your GMB pages, including promotions, blogs, and similar content pieces.

Use Reviews to Your Advantage and Positively Manage Consumer Frustrations

Reviews can be a double-edged sword for most businesses. A glowing review of your business on Yelp or GMB can help entice other consumers to visit your business. Conversely, a negative review can steer others away from your business.
Make sure that you encourage consumers to leave positive reviews after they have completed their purchases. If there are any negative reviews, be sure to respond to them and ask the customer what you can do to fix the situation. It’s possible that you can easily alleviate their concerns and potentially change the negative review they left for your business.

Create New Content for Your Website and Other Content Channels

As mentioned above, content is indeed king when it comes to digital marketing. Make sure you’re creating localized content like aggregated news feeds, community updates, and other online interactions with local groups/organizations.
Blog posts and other forms of informative content can significantly help build local SEO. One very important avenue to focus on is your service area pages, which offer your site the ability to rank on a town-by-town basis.

Take Advantage of Online Directories and Other High-Volume Referral Channels

Online directories like YellowPages, Yelp, MapQuest, and others help build local SEO and drive referral traffic to your business’s web pages.
Incorporate these effective SEO tools into your local marketing efforts to see increases in organic traffic as well as local conversions! Be sure to update any old listings as well to ensure that your business information is updated and accurate.

Paid advertising is a large and complicated world. Not all paid advertising is created equally and for the same purpose, so identifying which platforms are best for your exact business needs is critical when segmenting your marketing budget. This article will review how Meta Ads can be used to specifically raise awareness about a new business opening. If you’re looking for social media marketing help, or just in need of general marketing services, Boston Web Marketing can help. Contact us today by calling 857.349.5062.

What is an Awareness Campaign on Meta?

Awareness campaigns are a great way to advertise a business before it opens. Rather than focusing on conversions, awareness campaigns aim to increase brand recognition. The audience is much broader, and there is a heavy emphasis on getting your brand seen by as many people as possible in your target areas instead of focusing on conversions. Success regarding ad performance is not tied to your following on social media, so ads are a valuable tool for many businesses, even if they’re new to social media.

What Industries Should Advertise on Meta?

Meta advertising is great for a variety of different industries, depending on your business goals. Awareness campaigns are universally valuable if you’re opening a new business in a specific neighborhood. However, there are other advertising options within Meta designed for different business goals. Most companies that invest heavily in Meta Ads are e-commerce businesses, but that doesn’t mean other industries won’t find value in them if used strategically.

When Should You Start Advertising Before Your Business Opening Date for Maximum Effectiveness?

If you’re opening a business and trying to generate buzz about it, you should start as early as possible. However, it is important not to falsely advertise your opening date, because this can cause confusion and distrust around your brand. Start with general ‘coming soon’ advertising at first, and narrow in on the exact opening date once it is set in stone. How far in advance you can run your awareness campaign will depend on your budget. This article reviews how to determine a social media advertising budget.

It is no surprise that, in today’s online world, Google has been rapidly shifting towards AI-driven search results. Due to Google’s AI Overviews and zero-click searches, online users have been receiving answers from Google’s search results page without clicking on any websites, and we have seen organic search results declining. Just to be clear, SEO is very much alive. Still, we are entering a new era where we need to adapt and align our SEO strategies with structured data, intent-driven content, and trustworthiness to succeed. Keep reading below to gain further insight.

Be Present with Your Audience

To succeed in the new digital era, you need to be present with your audience. Ensure your brand or business is present on various search-heavy platforms like Reddit, Quora, TikTok, YouTube, and more! If your brand or business isn’t on these platforms, make sure your presence is noticed sooner rather than later. If your brand or business is primarily focused on just Google, you’re missing out heavily on a large portion of your target audience who are searching for content just like yours.

Best Optimization Opportunities for AI Overviews

When ranking and aligning your SEO strategy for AIO, make sure your content is high-quality, authoritative, and well-structured for AI to understand. We have provided examples and strategies below that you can use.

 • Create high-quality content: Perform keyword research to view what queries are displayed for AIOs. Once the queries are known, make creative content that meets the search intent of users while answering questions.
 • Create clear headings and short paragraphs: Doing so heavily improves content readability for online users and AI. Make sure your headings are simple and your paragraphs are short and easy to understand.
 • Use schema markup: This consists of structured data that helps search engines and AI better understand your brand or business’s content.
 • Being mentioned on trustworthy websites: Being associated with trustworthy websites helps improve your brand visibility. Keep creating high-quality content, contribute to your guests’ content, maintain a presence on social media, utilize internal links, appear on podcasts, and more!
 • Track your mentions: Use tools like Google Search Console and SEMrush to see where your brand or business is mentioned across various online platforms.
 • Update your content: There’s nothing that AI loves more than up-to-date content and information. Get into the habit of regularly updating your content with new data, statistics, and essential information.
