Google’s Latest Penguin Update

Matt Cutts announced on his blog that Google rolled out their new Penguin update yesterday, May 22, 2013.  This update (Penguin 2.0) is an updated algorithm that focuses on web spam and will affect about 2.3% of English-US searches.  Penguin 2.0 also rolled out for other languages but the effects will vary based on how much web spam each language has.

We’ve heard mixed reviews from other webmasters.  Some sites have seen declines in rankings and some have seen boosts.  Right now, it is still early to tell but we expect to see more data in the next couple of weeks.

If there are spam sites that you’d like to report after Penguin, here is a special spam report form at https://bit.ly/penguinspamreport . Tell Google about spam sites you see and they’ll check it out.
